Yanagase
VR soundwalk, 3D audio visualization
In this site-specific project centered around Yanagase street in the Gifu prefecture, I explored Yanagase’s historical significance as a textiles market center and its contemporary morphing into a liminal space seeking identity. Focusing on its altering soundscape as both an expression and agent of change, I computationally transformed my field recordings of Yanagase obtained through soundwalks into a 3D model of a virtual world. In this 3D environment the players can explore
sound as a worldmaking agent and a place self-cast, while contemplating on the identity, potentiality, and plasticity of sounding bodies amidst the social, economic and architectural composting of urban landmarks.
